Tacoma and Pierce County’s Pride

by Anthony Polimeni and Photography by Anthony Polimeni and Bryce Carithers

This week wraps up the main events for Tacoma and Pierce County’s month-long celebration of Pride. On Tuesday, July 9th, the Pierce County Council celebrated by proclaiming July as Pride Month for the county. For many, this was a sign of progress here in the southern part of the Sound area. For others, it was a battle cry, as one of the council members made news by protesting her not appearing in person for all council meetings for the month of July while the pride flag was being displayed in the chambers.

Then, on Friday night, an awards show was held to celebrate community members. This weekend’s big event, though, was the Pride Fest in downtown Tacoma. Here are the pictures from both the proclamation ceremony and Tacoma Pride Fest. Photos of the Proclamation event were taken by Anthony Polimeni and photos of Tacoma Pride Fest were done by Bryce Carithers.
