Meeting the World in Palm Springs: IGLTA hosts their 2025 Global Convention in the Queer Desert Oasis

Palm Springs didn’t just host the 2025 International LGBTQ+ Travel Association (IGLTA) Global Convention; it embraced it. From the moment you arrived, you could feel the energy. The city, long known as a sanctuary and vibrant hub for the LGBTQ+ community, truly rolled out the rainbow carpet for the largest-ever turnout of tourism professionals at IGLTA’s convention, who flew in from around the world. After a decade-long absence from the U.S. West Coast, the convention’s return felt both like a homecoming and a powerful call to action.

Showing up matters, and the world showing up resonated deeply throughout the Palm Springs Convention Center. Against a global backdrop of rising anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric, this gathering felt less like a standard trade show and more like a vital summit. It was a tangible reminder of the tourism industry’s power to foster inclusion and drive positive change by simply bringing people together.

The convention was a whirlwind of productive energy. The expanded two-day Buyer/Supplier Marketplace was bustling, creating a critical space for direct connections between properties, destinations, and travel advisors. But beyond the business deals, the educational programming was exceptional. Sessions tackled the industry’s most pressing issues head-on, from the practical applications of AI in travel to the crucial, nuanced discussions on intersectionality for BIPOC and gender-diverse travelers.

What truly set the tone, however, were the moments of inspiration. Honoring industry legends like Richard Gray of Greater Fort Lauderdale with the Pinnacle Award was a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come. At the same time, presenting the Pathfinder Award to the local LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert for their work with Trans and Gender Expansive programs grounded the event in the immediate, essential work that continues today. It was a perfect balance of honoring the past and committing to the future.

Of course, the host city was a star in its own right. Palm Springs provided the perfect backdrop. The convention’s formal sessions flowed seamlessly into vibrant networking receptions and informal gatherings in the Arenas District. Local businesses welcomed attendees with open arms, offering discounts and special welcomes that made everyone feel genuinely valued.

Leaving Palm Springs, the consensus was clear: this was more than just a successful convention. It was a rejuvenating, inspiring, and necessary reminder of this community’s resilience and the collective importance of creating a world where everyone can travel freely and authentically.
