Checking-In with Beau Burriola

Checking In is a new periodic column where we ask Europeans about their views on the USA. This week’s question: If you were to be offered a great job in the USA tomorrow, would you take it?

“I would think twice before packing back bags for the U.S. right now, not just as a foreigner, but as a social scientist given the current climate where academic freedom feels increasingly strained by political pressures and structural shifts.” – Nicolas, Greece

“No, the coffee is undrinkable.” – Florian, France

“A few years ago, I would have seriously considered a job in the USA. Now everything is so different, I don’t think it’s my place.” – Miguel, Spain

“No. I enjoy the U.S. but at the moment it feels a bit too unpredictable for my taste – exciting to watch, less exciting to live in. I’ll stick with a place where democracy and healthcare both feel a little more boring, and that’s a compliment.” Jorma, Finland

“I will put that into the Hell No folder.” – Kevin, Flanders

“Growing up in Poland, moving to the USA seemed like a dream come true. Now I’d rather stick my dick in a beehive.” – Mateusz, Poland

“Unless my situation really forced me to, I cannot imagine to leave Europe – or as l like to call it: the land of the free!” – Tomek, Germany

“Absolutely not, I would not feeling at ease on a daily basis as a foreigner in the United States. I love my freedom to travel among my great European neighbours too much!” – Yann, France

“No thank you, very happy with my socialist union rights here.” – Estaban, Netherlands

“Depending on what state but clearly the US is unstable.”  – Nordine, Belgium

“Yes, I would consider it. I work in theatre so there are a few places that really appeal to me. I’ve already transferred a show to NYC and that experience was great!”

Stephen, UK

One out of 11 isn’t so bad then!
