Gossip Columnist/Drag Personality
What or who inspired you to become a journalist?
In 1995 I appeared with singer Boy George as his look-alike on Seattle’s Northwest Afternoon. on Komo TV4. On a whim, I asked him if I could interview him after the show. He agreed and not only did I interview him but we did a photoshoot of us together for the cover of 2002 magazine. So, he was my initial inspiration to become a journalist.
What is your favorite story that you have written?
The time that I spent the night at the Hotel Del Coronado. The hotel is famous for being one of America’s most haunted places. I spent the night in the exact hotel room where a woman shot and killed herself over 125 years ago; her restless spirit is said to haunt her old room. I was skeptical and didn’t really believe in the ‘Paranormal Activity’, so I ended up running out of the room and I was terrified out of my wits!
Do you feel like you have a dual responsibility: being queer and a journalist?
I’m a journalist first and foremost. I don’t get involved in politics. I’m more of a personality.
What keeps you passionate about journalism?
As I have gotten older, I have realized that I have been given an amazing platform with the style of writing that I gravitate to. I look back at some of my Boy Mike fab gab social club around tone and style articles that I have written over the years, and they are like many time capsules of the style, music, fashion and improvements that made the scene during a particular era.
What advice would you have for those wanting to become a journalist?
Only write about things that interest you. Be passionate and put your personality into your stories. Put love and care into everything you write, and this will come across to your readers always saying, “Do what you love, and you will never work a day in your life!”
Do you have any future goals or projects you would like to share with us?
