Boy Mike’s FAB-GAB: Halloween Haunts

The 2024 Haunting Season has finally arrived! Yes, it’s that time of year for me to give you the heads off…. or, um, I mean a heads up on some frightfully fun things to see and do this Halloween. I’ll even throw in a few tips of the best places in town to shop for the perfect costume and wig.

The doors will finally creek open to Seattle’s scariest and creepiest haunted attractions. I go to the Georgetown Morgue (it was an actual Morgue at one point) every Halloween and am always shocked and scared out of my wits! Don’t even get me started about my fear of chainsaw wielding clowns! The Morgue is different every year with changes that will always keep you on your toes, never knowing what to expect around each darkened corner! Be sure to call for blackout dates and hours of operation as it is not open every night. http://seattlehaunts.com

One of my favorite places to take my out-of-town visitors is to Bill Speidel’s Underground Tour in Seattle’s original neighborhood, Pioneer Square.

In 1889 nearly all of downtown Seattle was destroyed in a lake of fire. They built a new city on top of the ashes and ruins creating a labyrinth of passageways and caverns beneath the city’s buildings and streets. During the tour you pass by the burned out and abandoned store fronts of this once bustling underground city! For reservations call or go online at www.undergroundtour.com.

For the best Halloween costumes, decor and accessories there is no better destination than your local Seattle Spirit Halloween store. With over 15,000 “pop-up” stores across the United States. Spirit is the largest Halloween store in North America. Here you will find everything you need to dress the whole family, throw the ultimate Halloween party or create the Haunted House of your nightmares!

For something a bit different this fall make the pilgrimage to the heart of Magnolia and check out the gigantic pumpkin patch of (3807 29th Avenue West). They have been growing and displaying humongous pumpkins there for over 35 years; their award-winning crop has even produced pumpkins that weighed over 1700 lbs. Now that’s a lot of pumpkin pies!

One of the best transformations for Halloween is Wild Waves. Washington’s largest
combination theme and water park, is transformed into a 70-acre “scream park” as Fright
Fest returns offering Fun by Day and Fright by Night. By Day, younger thrill seekers will delight in
Booville, designed especially for them with plenty of fun, kid-friendly activities. But, as the sun goes
down, it’s Fright by Night with scarier-than-life ghouls roaming the midways and terrifying haunts
throughout the park. In addition to expanded hours and more haunted attractions, this year’s Fright
Fest will feature a 24-hour Crypt Keeper Challenge giving guests the chance to face the darkness
and conquer their fear by spending a full 24 hours inside creepy, custom-built coffins. The last person
left lying down will receive two Wild Waves 2025 Season Passes, a 2025 Season Dining Plan and
more treats, not tricks.

2024 Fright Fest Attractions include:
– Booville – featuring Xakary the Magician, story time and juggling entertainment, face painting,
crafts, games, costume contests, and kiddie rides;
– New! Vampire Bar – Located next to Carousel Café, Underground friends can meet up to
enjoy specialty drinks like Blood Bag Fangrias, Vampire Kiss, and Blood Moon cocktails along
with a tasty, night “bites” menu (must be 21+, ID required);
– Newly Renovated! Camp Whispering Pines, Curse of the Wendigo – Heed the warnings of
the campers as they try to elude the evil Wendigo. He’s looking for new blood, and someone
may be right in his path;

– Trail of Terror – A once vibrant, bustling settlement is now an eerie ghost town. Guests will
test their nerves as they dare to journey beyond their wildest nightmares to unearth the truth
amid the crumbling tombstones;
– Chamber of Souls – Unwanted visitors encounter creepy residents throughout the endless
halls of the haunted Victorian mansion; and
– Voodoo Swamp – Travel down to the boggy marsh located next to the lake and venture
through the Voodoo Swamp. The Swamp Witch is waiting for unsuspecting souls. (There is a
$5 upcharge for this attraction).

Most of the bars and clubs will be having drink specials, costume contests and lots of candy!

Wherever you choose to haunt this year, remember to be safe and have a ghoulishly great time and always remember, ”Going out doesn’t have to be a drag!” Happy Halloween!

Love and lipstick,  XXXOO, Boy Mike
