Scott Shoemaker (AKA Ms. Pak-Man) -Actor/Producer/Writer Seattle, WA
What mediums do you use for your art?
My primary medium is theater, though I am also a musician and engage in video work.
What is your core inspiration for your art?
I am inspired by the absurdity of existence.
What do you think your role as an artist is in the community?
As a clown, I aim to create shared experiences where people can laugh and let loose. This can be
healing and good for the soul. Having a lively and enjoyable time with a room full of people fosters
community and connection.
What would you like to see happen in the art world to include the LGBTQ+ community more?
I’d like to see more small and medium-sized, affordable venues where people can take creative risks.
How has art impacted your life?
Art has given me both identity and purpose. It may sound silly given the nature of my shows, but it’s
true.
Who are your favorite artists?
John Waters, Dina Martina, Todd Haynes, and Wayland Flowers.
Where can people see your art?
My Christmas show, Scott Shoemaker’s War on Christmas, will be performed throughout December at
Theatre Off Jackson. Next April, we’re producing a sci-fi show for Intiman Theatre’s Cabaret called
Scott Shoemaker’s: Probed. We’re also doing our Ms. Pak-Man show at The Triple Door in June and
debuting a new Halloween show at Theatre Off Jackson.
What does it mean to be a queer artist to you?
It means having the opportunity to be a queer person in a very public way, which is inherently valuable.
