Queer Artists Q & A: The Art of Parody

Artist Name: Mark Siano

Mediums: Writer, Composer, Performer

Location: Seattle, WA

What is your core inspiration for your art?

Everyday life and pop culture, we’re always looking for beauty, comedy, tragedy, and music that would work on stage.

What do you think your role as an artist is in the community?

Our comedy outfit has been often called the Gateway Drug, we are here to draw new people and younger audiences to the theatre.

What would you like to see happen in the art world to include the LGBTQ+ community more?

More venues, more shows, in general Seattle has way more LGBTQ+ artists than opportunities for them to share their artwork.

How has art impacted your life?

Art is my life, I’m not sure I know any other way.

Who are your favorite artists?

I have so many, where to start… props to some local heroes in the theatre world like Parmida Ziaei, Keiko Green, Opal Peachey, Kelleen Conway Blanchard, Justin Huertes, and Andrew Lee Creech.

Where can people see your art?

My next show is at Seattle Public Theater – Jurassic Parking Lot runs August 20-September 14th

What does it mean for you to include Queer artists in your shows?

Usually means more fun!
