After an incredible year for Doechii, which included winning the Grammy for Best Rap Album, she wrapped up her “Live from the Swamp” tour to a sold-out audience in Seattle, Washington. The vibe was crisp and exciting as the crowd waited to get into the WaMu Theater. With vendors blasting her hits, the crowd was dancing in line waiting to get through security.
Once inside, the audience gathered to claim their space in the theater. The stage was simple for the opener, Kal Banx from Dallas, Texas, and the DJ spinning behind him. Kal got the audience moving, excited, and invested in his story.
After Kal Banx finished, there was a short reset for the full staging, and what seemed to be the largest working boom box that rumbled the building and everything in it with its base. When the set was ready, the crowd knew the lady of the evening would be taking the stage soon. That is when the “Doechii” chants began and continued until she hit the stage.
The moment the lights focused on Doechii, it was on. Her hits, including Anxiety, Denial Is A River, Nissan Altima, Alter Ego, and so many others, were performed, but the magic of Doechii is herself. She is one of the most confident, blunt, and authentic performers in the industry. Her rap and cadences were fierce, and her dancing was worth making it rain over and over again.
One of the things that makes Doechii so powerful is how she connects with her audiences. As a queer, black woman, she is unapologetically herself, and that is the true magic and power that she owns. We, the audience, can relate to some part of her identity. Yet, you can see the love from all who were there. From the lovers of rap and the LGBTQ+ community coming out to support, to the kids who see a powerful black woman making her own way and inspiring them —that is the magic of who Doechii is.
What is next? We will have to wait and see what Doechii brings in 2026. What we do know is that her work and determination are now getting the recognition they deserve, which hopefully opens any doors she decides to go through to create her art. To end the magical night, her family and close friends were there to celebrate the tour’s end with flowers for her and the other performers. It was a moment of realism and emotion that brought everyone together to celebrate her success. I, for one, am excited to see what she brings to life next.
