Thorgy Thor is Back with Seattle Symphony with ‘Music and Fashion’ for Pride

It was in 2022, as we were still recovering from the COVID quarantine, when the Seattle Symphony teamed up with the Seattle Men’s Chorus and special guests Thorgy Thor and Anita Spritzer for a special Pride concert. I’m happy to say that Thorgy is back with the Seattle Pops and better than ever—and this time, the focus is fashion!

Haute couture meets high notes when Thorgy Thor returns to Benaroya Hall! Reunited with the Seattle Symphony, sensational NYC-based drag performance artist Thorgy Thor (RuPaul’s Drag Race, Dragnificent) will dazzle audiences with her vibrant personality, virtuoso violin skills, razor-sharp wit, and outrageous fashion sense. Expect a night filled with musical masterpieces and stunning costumes. Whether you’re a fashionista, a music lover, or both, this concert is a must-see spectacle that promises to be a truly unique experience!

I had a chance to reach out to Thorgy Thor to get the details.

Last Time vs. the New Show:

Hello! The Pride show was an absolute joy and pleasure! I’m so happy to be invited back. This show is very different! Music and Fashion takes the audience on a journey from the beginning of time… everything from Bach to Beyoncé! The program is for everyone—to celebrate and enjoy early symphonic music with FABULOUS COSTUMES! Of course, I had to throw some drag drama in the show, so expect a lip sync for your life… LIVE ON STAGE with full orchestra and soloists!

Violin Was Love at First Sight:

I started violin when I was 9 or 10. Funny story… I was actually a competitive swimmer when I was young. I swam 7 days a week and competed until I qualified for the all-eastern competition. HOWEVER! I was hospitalized many times until we found out I was allergic to chlorine! So, I had to switch my Speedo for a G-string!

Instruments Thorgy Plays:

My private teachers were like family, since I spent so much time with them. I had a VERY fast growth spurt when I was young, and my teacher was smart enough to say, “Let’s put you on viola also.” I auditioned on violin for conservatory, but when I got accepted and they learned I played viola very well, I was performing with doctorate-level string quartets as a freshman! Needless to say, I played a lot of music in college. I eventually taught myself cello, too! The toughest part of switching from violin to cello was relearning a different hand and embouchure—totally different muscles! After conservatory, I moved to Brooklyn and freelanced with different orchestras on each instrument. My favorite was filling in for cellists in pit orchestras every once in a while.

A Drag String Quartet:

My goal for YEARS has been to put together a string quartet of all queens. I’ve searched and searched… I’m sure they’re out there—hit me up! Let’s play Mendelssohn together! Over the years, I’ve met a lot of queer musicians who put a smile on my face. I had the honor of working with Anita Spritzer—tenor and fabulous drag artist in Seattle—the last time I was with the symphony. If we’re talking instrumentalists… I was very impressed with Snow White Trash when I performed with members of the London Philharmonic last year. She’s a funny, fabulous entertainer who plays multiple instruments—including her forte, saxophone—and I would love to work with her again.

A Meaning of Pride:

I’m proud of a few things in my life. I’m proud of my Norwegian heritage, which is why I kept my middle name, THOR, in my stage name. I’m proud that I haven’t given up music to pursue the craft of drag entertainment—or vice versa. Instead, I’ve combined them. I’m proud to be a queer artist, despite recent administrative efforts to eradicate my art in this country. My orchestral shows are one of a kind, and they’re for everyone of all ages—to come together under one roof and enjoy the fusion of symphonic music, FABULOUS fashion, and drag humor!
