Utopian Gardens at the Tacoma Armory

If you are looking for a unique and inspiring way to spend a day in Tacoma, you might want to check out Utopian Garden, a state-of-the-art projection experience that celebrates art, science, and nature. Utopian Garden is an immersive and participatory art exhibition that invites you to play and dream in a stunning fantasy realm, brought to life by the designers of flora&faunavisions from Berlin, Germany. Utopian Garden is open now through October 8 at Tacoma Armory, and it is a fun and joyful journey that uplifts all who participate.

What is Utopian Garden?

Utopian Garden is a dynamic multi-sensory audio-visual landscape that transports you to a world you’ve never seen before, and kindles the creativity to build a better future. The exhibition is divided into four chapters, each focusing on a different aspect of art, science, and nature. You will explore the wonders of botany, geometry, color, and artificial intelligence, and interact with the projections using your body and voice. You will also co-create your own version of a utopian garden with other visitors, using your imagination and collaboration skills. Utopian Garden is influenced by the ideas of visionary thinkers such as Ada Lovelace, Carl Linnaeus, Claude Monet, and many others.

How to Experience Utopian Garden?

Utopian Garden is open from Wednesday to Sunday, with various sessions available throughout the day. Each session lasts for 90 minutes, and you can choose to join a guided tour or explore the exhibition at your own pace. Tickets are $39 on weekdays and $49 on weekends, with discounts for students, children, and groups. You can also purchase an All Access Pass for $100, which includes unlimited attendance to Utopian Garden. You can buy tickets online or at the box office.

What Else to Expect at Utopian Garden?

Utopian Garden is more than just an exhibition. It is also a place to learn, create, and connect with others. After the tour, you can participate in hands-on creative workshops that focus on art, science, and nature activities geared towards sustainability and the environment. The workshops are facilitated by local artists and educators, and they are held every second and fourth Saturdays at 1 pm. Topics will vary each month. Patrons with a ticket can return to attend a workshop for free.

You can also enjoy the Roosevelt Room, which features an art installation by Hugo Moro, a community resource table, a reading nook, a cafe, and merchandise. The Roosevelt Room is a space to relax, reflect, and socialize with other visitors.
